Towns of the Russian River & West County

Visit the towns of the river area

Dec. 21, 2010

Guerneville is the anchor of the River communities. The community embraces diversity and a friendly, relaxed way of life while offering great spas, retreats, dining and shopping. Johnson’s Beach is right in town and both Armstrong Redwoods State Reserve and Korbel Champagne Cellars are just minutes away.

Cazadero lies upstream from the Russian River on Austin Creek. This tiny village deep in the redwoods draws its life from the forests and the creek, with its chuckling cascades and quiet pools and lush with bay laurel and ferns.

Rio Nido means “River Nest” in Spanish. Nestled in the canyons among the redwoods, you’ll find lodging, outdoor activities and a peaceful respite from the outside world.

Monte Rio offers woodsy inns, great dining and a nice swimming beach. Be sure to see the unique Quonset-hut movie theater with murals depicting the community’s history.

Forestville is surrounded by orchards, farms, and vineyards. It has a top-rated inn, wineries, galleries, cafes and restaurants, and easy access to the Russian River.

Graton is a somewhat hidden hamlet on the country road to Occidental. Close to several wonderful wineries, Graton has fascinating arts and antiques businesses, and celebrated restaurants.

Sebastopol’s Main Street is chock full of interesting shops and cafes, excellent restaurants and a repertory theater. Nearby, hunt for antiques, play golf, hike or bike the West Country Trail, and visit Luther Burbank’s historic experiment farm and local wineries.
